A studio of one.
Craftory is a one-person software studio in India, run by Anirban. I make small web apps that each do one everyday job, give them away, and sell the source code of some of them to other builders.
Why small
Small apps are the ones I can finish, keep running, and fix when they break. Each one gets its own subdomain, so it can grow, change or retire without dragging the others along.
When an app does one job, you can tell in ten seconds whether it is the right tool. That is the whole design brief.
Who does what
I write the code, the copy and the articles, and I answer the email. There is no team behind a contact form. If something is broken, hello@craftorytool.com reaches me, not a queue.
Money
How Craftory makes money.
Stated plainly, because free software that hides its business model usually has a bad one.
Affiliate links
Some app results link to stores with an affiliate tag, such as Amazon Associates. If you buy, the store may pay a commission. Your price is the same.
Ads
Some pages show ads. They sit around the tool, never inside the part you came to use.
Source kits
Builders buy the source code of some apps on Gumroad. This is what pays for new apps.
What I don’t do
- Sell or share your data.
- Put a free app behind a paywall later.
- Show invented reviews, user counts or countdown timers.
Built in public
Everything gets written down.
Every app gets an article: how it works, what went wrong, what is next. If you want to know how something here was made, it is probably written up.
